Life aboard Quantum of the Seas
Quantum of the Seas is based in Shanghai, from where she sails 4- and 5-night itineraries to Japan and Korea. Shanghai is a ‘must-see’ city in itself. In the near future many more large cruise ships will be based in China and serve the growing tourism market there. From June 2019 Quantum of the Seas changes base to Tanggu, the port for Beijing. From there cruises visit ports in Japan, and even to Vladivostok in Russia. Remember to obtain your multiple-entry visa to China well before sailing. In mid-November 2019 Quantum of the Sea relocates to Singapore, from where she offers 4- to 7-night cruises of the Malay Peninsula. Her latest technology includes high speed Internet (as if at home), onboard mobile device app, and RFID WOWBands (alternate to SeaPass card). Check-in goal is 10 minutes.

Quantum of the Seas received the Cruise Critic US Editors’ Pick Award 2014 for “Best New Ship.” At 167,800 GT and carrying 4180 passengers, Quantum of the Seas embraces a number of first-ever cruise features such as: the top deck adult solarium and pool with retractable roof; the complimentary North Star, a London Eye-style capsule on the top of the ship on an articulated arm that swings passengers over the ocean at a height of 303ft above sea level; a sky diving wind tunnel in a flight chamber made of glass; robotic entertainment display screens; and for kids and young-at-heart adults there are bumper cars, a surf simulator, roller skating, and circus facilities. Innovations bring the outside ocean inside and offer staterooms larger than ever. Quantum’s godmother Kristen Chenoweth portrays the spirit of fun, luxury and entertainment available to guests on this very impressive vessel.

Accommodation
The staterooms of Quantum will be nine percent larger than Oasis Class ships in the company's fleet. Of the 2,090 staterooms, 1,570 will be balcony staterooms, 147 will be outside staterooms and 373 will be “virtual balcony” staterooms (interior rooms with near floor-to-ceiling (1.3m) HD screen with real-time views of the ocean and destinations). Of the overall staterooms, 34 will be wheelchair accessible with excellent facilities, 16 will be family-connected, 16 will be studio interior staterooms, and 12 will be balcony studio staterooms. These staterooms are based on a new modular design, with a “more residential atmosphere”, and all the gadgetry you‘d wish for, including USB ports.

Interior View Studios are for single occupancy with no single supplement, yet come with full size bed and bathroom, can sleep up to two, and on your flat-screen TV view real-time outside views - interesting and novel. Ocean View Staterooms come with two twin beds and panoramic window. There are 14 suite categories, all with balconies, that include Spa (with hot tub), Loft (two decks overlooking the aft of the ship), and Owner’s, and come variously with large entertainment areas, fabulous views, two bathrooms and dining areas. Choose your level of luxury for your family size. In all categories of staterooms there are some cabins that are inter-connecting to accommodate families. Smoking is not permitted inside any stateroom and any stateroom balcony. Cigarette, cigar, e-cigarette and pipe smoking is permitted in designated outdoor areas.

Food and Dining
Quantum’s new concept of Dynamic Dining eliminates set dining times or assigned seating, no main dining rooms and no formal night. There are 18 restaurants including the specialty venues, none with more than 500 diners. Complimentary options include: American Icon Grill, Pan-Asian food, formal dining at The Grande, The Café @ Two70 with gourmet casual dining, SeaPlex Dog House, Italian cuisine Sorrento, and Windjammers Marketplace for buffet and bakery.

For an extra charge there are nine options that include: the debut franchise Jamie’s Italian eatery, Michel’s Genuine Pub, Divinely Decadence in the Solarium Bistro for the calorie-conscious, Wonderland for molecular gastronomy, Izumi Japanese for sushi, the Chef’s Table (seats just 14), classic burgers and shakes at Johnny Rockets, and Café Promenade. Menus feature healthy, vegetarian and kosher options. Special dietary needs can be catered for by giving advanced notice. Menus change daily throughout the cruise.

Entertainment
A Broadway-style production is presented in the Main Theatre. In the two-story Music Hall enjoy live performances, DJs, theme party nights, two or three billiard tables, and more. “Two70”, seating 475, presents panoramic views of the ocean through glass walls three decks high. During daytime sit back and relax in the living-room space alongside the café. In the evening it transforms into a theatre with spectacular entertainment with live performers, aerialists, video and digital scenery during show times. The show is repeated over multiple nights. North Star (complimentary) carries13 guests, one wheel-chair passenger, and an operator. SeaPlex is the largest indoor active space at sea. Experience a circus school with flying trapeze, basketball, bumper cars, roller skating, and in the evenings it becomes a disco nightclub. Sky diving is complimentary for 3 years and older. Alternatively, just stroll around the Royal Promenade and shop duty-free, or for a quiet time retire to the Library/Card Room or Internet Café.

On-shore excursions and explorations can be pre-booked or arranged on board. Choose from a range of workshops to bring out your creativity and expand your knowledge. The Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center is fully equipped and runs a variety of beauty services and fitness classes. Activities include use of the outdoor sports deck, complete with mini-golf course, golf simulators, boxing ring, whirlpools, and a full-sized sports court. The Solarium is exclusively for adults. The ship's Youth Zone is exclusively for kids and teens and offers Adventure Ocean youth programmes, and the H2O Zone waterpark with its FlowRider surf simulator. And every RCI ship has a rock-climbing wall.
