Norwegian Jewel cruises for 2020-2021
After Norwegian Jewel sails around French Polynesia and Hawaii – five ports in each archipelago – to present Pacific tourism at its best, from May to September 2020 the ship returns to 7-night Alaska Inside Passage cruises between Anchorage and Vancouver. Both end-point cities are worthy of a few days of your time. In October Jewel returns to Hawaii, French Polynesia, and the South Pacific. By late November 2020 she arrives in Sydney to offer popular summer New Zealand tours. In March/April 2021 Norwegian Jewel again sails between French Polynesia and the Hawaiian islands, for those who love the history and sights of the Pacific. For the next six months cruises depart alternatively from Vancouver and the port for Anchorage, offering even night cruises along the Alaskan fjord coast.
Entering service in 2005 at 93,502 GT and carrying 2,376 passengers, Norwegian Jewel presents a “Freestyle" cruising concept, which allows guest to dine in any of the 12 restaurants (some pay-extra), in casual attire, at times of their own choosing. Inside décor is bright to attract the young and active. The ship is particularly suited to families, indeed it is a floating leisure centre. Watch your extra costs as they mount up. Accept the usual queues that come with a large ship. The level of hospitality is very good. All ages are well catered for. Dress is casual. The cheery and welcoming staff range over more than 60 nationalities. This is an excellent value-for-money vessel, whether on a tight or a generous budget.

Life aboard Norwegian Jewel

Both end-point cities are worthy of a few days of your time. In October Jewel returns to Hawaii, French Polynesia, and the South Pacific.
Accommodation
All cabins have tea/coffee making sets, TV channels and movies, mini-fridge, separate toilet and enclosed shower, and European duvets. Two single beds can combine to make a double bed. Cabins have bunk beds to accommodate four (though crowded), and some have inter-connecting doors for families. The ocean-view (two to four guest) cabins have a rectangular window or a porthole. Balcony staterooms accommodate a third or fourth person on a sofa bed. These rooms are larger with a sitting area and full height glass doors opening to a private balcony. There are no single cabins, and 27 cabins and suites are wheelchair-accessible.
All eight classes of suites are lavishly furnished, have separate bath and shower, and come with butlers who can serve all meals in-suite. Mini-suites accommodate four. Aft-facing mini-suites have an exceptional view. The two-bedroom family suites accommodate up to six, with a separate children’s bedroom. The Haven suites, a class within the ship, have access to their own private courtyard. Haven suites include two and three-bedroom Garden Villas, Owner’s Suite, and Penthouses. The Haven three-bedroom Garden Villa staterooms, at up to 4700 ft2 (440 m2), are among the largest at sea and come with living room, dining room, baby grand piano, outdoor dining area and terrace, private garden, and three separate bedrooms each with king or queen-size bed, private luxury bath (overlooking the ocean) and CD/DVD library. Two bedrooms also feature a full bath with whirlpool tub and separate shower.
Food and Dining
The ship has 16 dining options, and Freestyle Dining means you can eat anywhere, anytime, and with whomever, in formal or casual dress. The two main dining rooms are Azura and Tsar’s Palace. Check the video screens to find out how busy each venue is, make a reservation, and find out the wait time. Alternative restaurants include: Cagney’s Steak House serving steaks in a 30s setting, and carved meats at Moderno Churrascaria. Blue Lagoon for trendy fast food, Le Bistro with classic French gourmet, Mama’s Italian Kitchen for traditional Italian fare, and Chin Chin Asian Restaurant for authentic Japanese/Thai/Chinese. Specialty restaurants have a surcharge and may need reservations.
Breakfast and lunch are served via open-seating at Azura and Tsar’s Palace, but during good weather try the Garden Café and aft deck Great Outdoors Café. Fast food around the clock is at Blue Lagoon. There are a number of grills and many other eateries that serve English beer, coffees, gelato, fast food and buffet items. Children have their own fare at Garden Café/Kid’s Café. Between meals assess the offerings of the 13 bars and lounges.
Entertainment
The three-deck Stardust Theatre offers Las-Vegas-style razzle-dazzle production shows and cabaret acts. Many bands and solo musicians provide dance music and entertainment throughout the ship. The ship also features library, internet cafe, games room, a cinema with moving seats, a casino, and really comfortable cards and writing rooms.
During sea days, apart from the usual activities, are lifestyle-improvement presentations on health and fitness. The wide range of fitness and recreation services includes four bowling lanes, rock-climbing wall, adult water slides, fitness classes, gymnasium, courts, mini-golf, two golf-driving nets, shuffleboard, ball courts, an oversized chessboard, beautiful spa, six hot tubs, whirlpools, and sundry other pools. Facilities and activities for youngsters are outstanding. Children have their own pool and wet 'n' wild water park. Teenagers have their own meeting place at Video Arcade. This is a real family ship.
