Noordam cruises for 2020-2021
Until March 2020 MS Noordam sails from Sydney and Auckland to circumnavigate New Zealand in a series of 14-night cruises. From May to September each year Noordam joins seven other HAL ships to cruise the Alaskan fjords over 7-nights, alternating each way between Vancouver and the port for Anchorage. From October 2020 through to mid-April 2021 Noordam sails from Singapore, Yokohama and Hong Kong, offering 124 and 28 night in-depth cruises around East and South-East Asia. In September/October 2020 (or April 2021) join a fjords cruise with crossing the North Pacific to Japan. Hallmarks of HAL include spacious staterooms and public areas, rich timber furnishings set with museum-quality paintings and antiques, and discreet personal service. HAL arranges excellent onshore tours, and pre- and post-tour packages.
Noordam’s last refit upgraded many features of HAL’s Signature of Excellence program: the Pinnacle Grill alternative restaurant, the Neptune Lounge for suite guests, and the Culinary Arts Centre with demonstration kitchen. Appealing to older guests are the traditional features – high tea, formal nights, antique displays and ballroom dancing – while contemporary features appeal to younger guests. You will appreciate HAL’s excellent service and onboard atmosphere, as attested to by the high rate of returning passengers. Tips and gratuities are additional to your fare, and be assured your Indonesian and Filipino stewards and their families back home are greatly benefitted. Crew members are very loyal to HAL.

Life aboard Noordam
Accommodation
Staterooms are spacious, and include: Interior large and standard; Ocean-view, some with panoramic windows; and three levels of suites – Signature, Neptune and Pinnacle. Basic features include a flat-panel TV and DVD player (book your DVDs by phone), ample storage, personal safe, excellent twin/queen bedding and bath amenities, fresh fruit on request, and nightly turndown service. The décor is very pleasing and comfortable. Complimentary meals can be ordered for in-suite dining around the clock. Triple and quad cabins are available, as well as interconnecting cabins for up to six guests. Many staterooms are modified accessible and wheelchair accessible. There are no single cabins.
Suites are significantly larger, lavish, and come with a full-size bath. The sitting area has a double sofa bed. The Pinnacle and Neptune Suites have the services of a personal concierge and access to the private Neptune Lounge with large screen TV, library, sofas, and socialising with other suite guests. Extra amenities include priority boarding and dining requests, complimentary laundry and pressing services, and a cocktail party with ship officers. Pinnacle Suites have in addition a microwave oven, pantry for meal preparation, whirlpool bath for four, and of course so much extra space at 108 m2 plus balcony.
Food and Dining
The ship has seven formal to casual dining areas. The two-deck main Dining Room serves open-seating breakfast and lunch. For dinner chose between set-seating at first or second servings, or open seating on the upper deck. The waiting staff are friendly Indonesian and Filipino stewards. Ask for a table for 2/4/6/8. Special dietary requests can be ordered pre-cruise. One night in seven is a formal night, perhaps preceded with pre-dinner drinks, then after your meal retire to the Showroom at Sea or a musical recital. There are two alternative restaurants, best to reserve in advance: The pay extra Pinnacle Grill for steaks and seafood (and occasionally the Pinnacle – Le Cirque), and the Italian-American-influenced Canaletto (with no service charge). Ask about wine packages.
The Lido Restaurant, with its floor-to-ceiling windows, has two serving lines during the day offering food cooked à la minute, and at night opens as a popular and casual bistro. Outside meal times it serves sandwiches, ice cream, and special late-night offerings. Additionally there are pool-side burgers, hot dogs, Mexican food, and a coffee bar. Relax in Explorations Café, a gathering place that mixes together a library and coffee bar where one can check email or read the morning paper. Afternoon tea, the occasional High Tea, and the ice cream bar provide in-between snacks.
Entertainment
At night the two-deck Vista Show Lounge offers (twice nightly) musical productions, cabaret, and its features include three video screens. Alternatively, attend a musical recital in one of the lounges, dance to the backing of a band ensemble, watch sport in the multi-screen sports bar, or sip drinks while your request is sung by the pianist or guitarist. Three outstanding musical options are: the Lincoln Center Stage chamber music (seats 100); Billboard Piano Bar karaoke; and B.B.King’s Blues Club. View recent movies in the Screening Room, unless you’d prefer to watch your choice of DVD in your cabin. Through the evening the disco and nightclub on the top deck will take you into the early hours of the morning, very inviting if the new day is a Sea Day and you’ve ordered breakfast in your cabin. The large casino has lots of playing options.
