Cruises from Viana do Castelo
Viana do Castelo is an Atlantic port in the far north of Portugal, less than 20km from the Spanish border. It lies at the mouth of the Lima River. It was from this port that Portuguese ships from the 14th to 16th Centuries embarked on great maritime discoveries and Empire-building. Today you can view the remains of pirate-defence towers, and commercial buildings that recall the town’s proud past as Portugal’s second city of commerce.
At present major local industries focus on naval construction and shipyards. The city has plenty of well-maintained edifices, paved streets, side-walk restaurants and gardens to make you feel welcome.
