Cruises from Toba
Toba, population 19,000, is located on the Shima Peninsula facing Ise Bay and the Pacific Ocean. It lies on the central east coast of Homshu Island. Much of the city is within the borders of the Ise-Shima National Park. The local economy is based on fishing and pearl cultivation, along with tourism.
A well-known local attraction is Mikimoto Pearl Island, adjacent to the port area, and the size of ten football fields. On this island Pearl King Kokichi Mikimoto became the first person in the world to succeed in culturing pearls (1893). Now, the whole island, with its pearl museum, Mikimoto Kokichi Memorial Hall, shops, restaurants and other attractions is a tourist destination.
