Cruises from Sumenep
Sumenep is Madura Island’s most interesting town, situated just north of the eastern tip of Java, Indonesia. Madura is bordered to the south by the Strait of Madura and Bali Sea, and to the north and east by the Java Sea. Sumenep is the capital of Semenep Regency. The district was ruled by kings from the 13th C, and had its glory days in its 19th C sultanate, though under the Dutch East India Company. The Dutch East Indies finally gave way to independent Indonesian rule in 1948.
