Cruises from Kivitoo
In the 1800s a whaling station called Kivitoo was established just 55 km north of modern Qikiqtarjuaq. It was a Nunavut community in the Canadian territory of Nunavut. It lies just inside the Arctic Circle on the west side of Davis Strait. Greenland is 430 km to the east. A whaling post was established in the early 20th C.
Read moreIn 1912, the Sabellum Trading Company established several posts along the eastern shore of Baffin Island, including one at Kivitoo where the whalers used to anchor to flense carcasses, bury their dead, and take on fresh water. The site was abandoned in 1926.
