Cruises from English Passage
The English Narrows (or, English Passage; Angostura Inglesa, Spanish) is narrow 180 m wide section of the Messier Channel in the SW coast of Chile. It is 18 km long, from Isla Moat to Paso del Indio. The English Narrows are safe to navigate under the direction of a pilot when there are no strong winds. The tide runs up to 6 knots.
Everyone is on deck as the ship wends its way between islands and channel markers. The waterway is home to Magellanic Diving Petrels, Steamer Ducks, and the rare endemic Chilean dolphin. This small dolphin is shy of ships and spends its time in constricted straits with heavy tidal rips such as the English Narrows.
