Cruises from Christmas Island
Renowned as a world class Bonefish adventure site, Christmas Island (Kiritimati, pronounced ‘Christmas’) in the Republic of Kiribati (the local pronunciation of ‘Gilberts’) is the world's largest coral atoll, situatedl in the northern Line Islands. (There’s another Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean south of Java.) Since 1995 Kiribati is the easternmost country in the world, and was the first country to enter the year 2000. The island has four populated villages, London being the main village and port facility. A large portion of Christmas Island is given over to a nature reserve to protect the marine turtles and several species of rare migratory birds, which stopover or even stay all winter, with the lagoon and salt flats being their prime locations.
