Puerto Ordaz is a Venezuelan town situated on the Caroni River at the point where it flows into the Orinoco River, about 250 km inland from the Atlantic mouth of the Orinoco River. At the confluence the dark tannin-stained waters of the ‘blackwater’ Caroni tributary mix with the brown waters of the mighty Orinoco (4th largest river by volume in the world).
