Cruises visiting Cape Cod Canal & all Cape Cod Canal cruises for  2020-2021

View Cape Cod Canal 2020-2021 cruises for 1 ships listing 5 cruises from Cape Cod Canal with today's best deals!

The 11 km long Cape Cod Canal, in Massachusetts USA, was built during the Great Depression and remains the widest (at 146m) man-made sea-level canal without locks in the world. It is home to the Cape Cod Canal Railroad bridge, a vertical lift bridge that carries railroad traffic across the Canal. Of additional interest are the two car bridges, and the best way to appreciate the beauty of all three is to take a boat tour that provides a fascinating ‘underbelly’ view of all three bridges. Together with a narrator who provides visitors with the Canal’s history, they wend their way among a wide array of interesting craft in this truly fascinating and famous waterway.

Since 1928 The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District, has been responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Cape Cod Canal. With annual visitation exceeding three million, the Canal is one of the Corps busiest projects and serves as the gateway to historic Cape Cod. The primary mission is to provide safe navigation to the 14,000 commercial and recreational vessels in the area. However, the 1000 acres of land that surround the canal provide diverse recreational opportunities such as hiking, fishing, biking, picnicking and ship watching.

Multiple Canal access points along both sides have been developed into Recreation Areas equipped with restrooms, picnic areas and parking lots. Midway Recreation Area is a beautiful wooded area, ideal for families, offering individual and group picnic options with charcoal grills, volleyball and more. Midway has a large picnic pavilion with grills, tables, and a fireplace that can be reserved for group functions at no cost. Fishing is permitted from the Canal banks in all areas except Massachusetts Maritime Academy and the Canal Administration area in Buzzards Bay.
