Amasra is a small town set on a fortified promontory jutting northward into the Black Sea in Turkey. It has a long history dating all the way back to pre-Christian times, and actually lies beneath the ramparts of a fortress. As it is difficult to get to by road, it receives only a moderate number of summer visitors, and retains a pleasantly relaxed and peaceful atmosphere. Red-topped houses are scattered over the peninsula with only the minarets of the Fatih mosque rising above Amasra's attractive low skyline.

The beach front of Amasra is full of colourful fishing boats and day-tour tourist boats, with several fish restaurants, a seaside amusement park and many little stalls selling local specialities all thrown in together. There are several noteworthy sights within the town centre, the most popular of which is the historical Amasra Castle. In order to see one of the widest collection of monuments, from everyday utensils to the most amazing marble statues, be sure to visit the historical Amasra Museum.

One has to cross the Old Stone Bridge that connects Asmara with the island over a narrow inlet, and be sure to visit the beaches to have a swim and then taste the delightful seafood dinners. For those with an interest in the realm of darkness, the region also offers some of the most spectacular natural caves in Turkey. In the evenings several restaurants and bars offer live music performance, so if possible, sit on the terrace outside, enjoy the beautiful sunset and views of Amasra accompanied by music.
