Tikopia Island is a relatively remote island which belongs to the southernmost Province in the far east of the Solomon Islands. It is the remnant of an extinct volcano with its highest point, Mt. Reani, reaching 380 m above sea level, while Lake Te Roto covers an old volcanic crater which is 80 m deep. Tropical vegetation covers the rugged land formations.

Unlike the rapidly Westernizing society of much of the rest of Temotu province, Tikopia society is little changed from ancient times. Its people take great pride in their customs, and see themselves as holding fast to their Polynesian traditions, such as their intensive system of agriculture, strongly tied to their population density.

While the arrival of any ship is quite rare, there will be people waiting on the beach for the arrival of passengers. Visitors must ask permission of the chief to visit and be aware of the local customs, but once this has been done you can enjoy surfing, bird watching, visiting traditional villages, snorkelling and even diving. You will be completely relaxed on this unspoilt island where there is not a piece of land where the sea is not heard.
