Kennedy Island (colloquially known as Plum Pudding Island, though the correct local name is Kasolo Island) is an island in the Solomon Islands. It was named after John F. Kennedy. The island is said to be the area to which Lt. John F. Kennedy aided his injured crew after his boat, the PT-109, was rammed by a Japanese Destroyer during WWII. The island itself lies 15 minutes by boat from the provincial capital of the Western Province, Gizo.

At this time a truly amazing dive site awaits you, with white tip reef sharks and every conceivable tropical fish. Together with large gorgonians, and the brilliant staghorn and plate corals, you will have a truly fascinating experience. If you are not a diver, then enjoy a day of snorkelling and kayaking in beautiful clear calm water, as well as beach-combing on this tiny deserted islet with its interesting historical background.

One of two Solomon Islanders who saved the life of John F Kennedy during the war in the Pacific died recently at the age of 93. Eroni Kumana never forgot the man who would become US president and regarded him as his "honorary chief". Add to this the saying, "Words can't really describe what a remarkable man he was," said local historian and dive school owner Danny Kennedy who was no relation to JFK. Every time visitors saw him, he was just the most animated, energetic little guy - bouncing around with all this energy, even at 93 years of age.
