Kostroma is an historic city in central Russia, the administrative centre of Kostroma Oblast. A part of the Golden ring of the Russian towns, it is located at the junction of the Volga and Kostroma Rivers, on the left bank of the River Volga. Kostroma retained the original plan established for its center in 1773 after it was devastated by a great fire.
