The Isla Iguana is an island located at the entrance to the Bay of San Miguel, just 3.5 kms off the coast in eastern Panama. This is where a 58 hectare wildlife reserve is located. It includes 9 kms of seashore at El Arenal Beach as well as a 16 hectare coral reef, one of the largest in the Gulf of Panama.

During World War II, the U.S. Army used the area as a bombing range. Then it was taken over by a squatter, who planted fruit trees and other crops which now grow wild on the island. Following his eviction, on June 15, 1981 it was declared a protected Wildlife Refuge by the Panamanian government.

Native animals include varieties of crabs, black and green iguanas, boa constrictors, and red throated frigates. It is a vital nesting ground for several species of frigate as well as sea turtles.
