Cruises visiting Rosendal & all Rosendal cruises for  2019-2020

View Rosendal 2019-2020 cruises for 2 ships listing 2 cruises from Rosendal with today's best deals!

Rosendal is a small town at the western end of the Hardangerfjord in Hordaland, West Norway. Towering behind the town are mountains to over 1400 m within 10 km, and the Folgefonna National Park with three major glaciers. (There are no roads into the Park, get there by hiking or helicopter.) The sea, mountains and glaciers provide fantastic opportunities for activities in the great outdoors all year round. Rosendal is famous for having Norway's only Barony (Baroniet Rosendal), and the smallest castle in Scandinavia dating from 1665. The economy of the village is based on agriculture, tourism, and in the recent past ship building, remembered in the Shipbuilding Museum.

Today Rosendal Barony estate is a major tourist attraction, surrounded by a beautiful 300 year old renaissance garden. Its romantic landscaped garden from 1850 has viewpoints overlooking the fjord, mountains and waterfalls. The manor house was completed in 1665 by the nobleman Ludvig Holgersen Rosenkrantz. Here was a cultural centre for VIPs, including composer Edvard Grieg from Bergen, and down till today concerts continue as a tradition. A guided tour of the manor house – now the Baroniet Rosendal Museum – recounts the history of Norway from 17th to 20th C. The gardens are the finest Victorian gardens in Norway, with 2000 roses blooming in season.

In summer you can go by horse and carriage from the harbour to the Barony when it is the setting for concerts, theater plays, art displays, and of course a fine restaurant and tea room, with guided tours. The maritime museum open during the summer season is found down by the scenic waterfront. Kvinnherad Church (1250) is also located in this village. Other places of interest include: Steinparken rock park; The Folgefonn Centre with information about the Park; the Mykle Mikrobryggeri (microbrewery, of course); and the Malmangernuten hike (takes a few hours) to over-view the fjord – among other hiking opportunities.
