Lillesand (“Little Sand Beach”) is one of the most southerly ports in Norway, bordering on the North Sea entrance to the Baltic Sea. Sweden is nearby to the East, and Denmark to the South. The approach to the port passes numerous islands on the fractured coastline, and two kilometres before reaching port you’ll pass the historic Saltholmen Lighthouse built in 1882. The town, of fewer than 10,000, offers historical attractions. The Lillesand Town and Maritime Museum displays the tools of sail-makers and smiths workshops, and an old customs house.

Stroll around Lillesand to view the neat coloured houses and waterfront, overlooked by a church steeple, the highest building in town. Running past the Lillesund waterfront is a 12 km inland waterway - the Blindleia passage – filled with small boat traffic sailing the protected waters. Interestingly there is no tide in these waterways. During winter ice flows restrict small ships.
