Cruises visiting Arendal & all Arendal cruises for  2019

View Arendal 2019 cruises for 3 ships listing 8 cruises from Arendal with today's best deals!

Arendal is a small coastal town in southern Norway, situated on the north shore of Skagerrak (Skagen Channel), the entrance linking the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. Across the channel to the east is Sweden, and to the south is the Jutland peninsula of Denmark. Ships approach Arendal through a 5 km sound guided by the landmark twin lighthouses Lille Torungen and Store Torungen. Arendal is a centre for small boat manufacturing, mechanical and electronics industries. The world’s largest silicon carbide refining plant lies 7 km to the NE. The town is a popular holiday spot for Norwegians, set among beautiful woodlands and hills.

The town’s neat waterfront is lined with small boat berths, and a pathway for you to stroll and form an impression of the town. In the middle of Arendal is Tyholmen with wooden houses dating back to the 17th century. The inner harbour of Arendal is Pollen, where the fish market, pubs, and restaurants are located. Walk around the town’s cobblestone alleyways and brightly-coloured houses, and up hillsides for an overview of the waterfront. You’ll find the Trinity Church a landmark structure, the tallest in town, and nearby a square with small market. The old Town Hall near the marina is the tallest wooden building in Norway.

Seasonal activities include the Norwegian Grand Prix and F! Powerboat Racing. Take a 30-minute ferry to the island of Merde with its old wooden houses, museum, and sandy beach for sunbaking. Take a 2-hour trip around the island of Hisøy, past grand homes and pleasure boat factories to the open sea. Cycle to Tromøy over the suspension bridge that offers magnificent views. There’s also the recreational area Hove, and the beautifully-presented seaside village of Lyngør.
