The narrow Majuro Atoll is the capital and the most developed atoll in the Marshall Islands of Micronesia, having a port, shopping district, hotels, and an international airport. The Atoll consists of extremely narrow land masses, and it is fascinating to be able to walk from the lagoon side to the ocean side within minutes. Indeed, at some places it is sufficiently narrow to be able to throw a rock from one side to the other. In some areas, such as the road to the major population centre of Delap - where the government buildings and several large shops are located - the capital only consists of a single two-lane paved road with houses on either side. The bridge is probably one of the most sophisticated items of infrastructure on the island and is an important landmark.

Take the opportunity to learn about the history and people of the Marshall Islands at the Alele Museum, or shop for some traditional ware such as woven baskets. Diving and snorkelling here are becoming extremely popular despite the fact that these activities are in their infancy. Many sites are as yet undiscovered and the most popular spots remain free from damage. Popular spots include Arno Atoll, Kalalin Pass (also known as ‘the aquarium’), and Bokolap Island that features numerous fish and a World War II U.S. torpedo plane.

Unlike Palau or Fiji, the Marshalls have a vast array of hard corals and a smaller amount of soft corals. Sharks are seen on every dive, the most common being the Reef Whitetip, Grey Reef and Black Tip. Another tourist attraction is the Robert Reimers Enterprises that runs one of the few large-scale pearl farms in the Pacific.
