Cruises from Mananara
Mananara Nord is a town of 30,000 on the NE coast of Madagascar. It faces Antongil Bay that opens to the Indian Ocean. The town has a riverine harbour for small river ships on the Mananara River to the north of town. Coastal ships can also dock, and there’s an airport for small aircraft. Read more
One half of the population depends on farming, mostly of cloves, and in addition (Robusta) coffee, and Bourbon-Madagascar vanilla that is derived from orchids. Interestingly, Madagascar and Indonesia produce two-thirds of the world's supply of vanilla. About 10 percent of the population depends on fishing. Mananara Nord National Park lies inland to the south.
