Mojiko (Moji Port) lies at the western end of the Seto Inland Sea of Japan, between the islands of Honshu and Kyushu where they are separated by the Kanmon Straits. Mojiko is a ward of the city of Kitakyushu, and a major trading port for the region at the end of the 19th century. Adjacent to the port is the Mojiko Retro District, a tourist site centred on Mojiko Station (wooden and modelled on Rome’s Termini Station), and Kyushu Railway History Museum which a short walk from Mojiko Station. The precinct includes the Blue Wing pedestrian drawbridge, and the former Moji customs house of red brick, all within walking or cycling distance.

Five kilometres in a direct line east of the port are the Shiranoe Botanical Gardens, which overlook the Seto Inland Sea. Other sites of interest are: Old Moji Mitsui Club, built in 1921, and remembered for important visitors including Albert Einstein and his wife who stayed here in 1922; The Chinese Eastern Railway Office, modelled on a Russian building in China; Idemitsu Museum of Arts with artwork from the collection of Idemtsu Kosan; Kaikyo Plaza with its shops and restaurants.

Visit the restaurant on the top floor of the 31-storey Mojiko Retro Observation Room for great 360 degree views. Just one kilometre north of the city is the The Kanmon (suspension) Bridge joining the islands. Cross the strait by ferry, and walk back via the 700m underwater tunnel.
