What a credit Lisa is to you. She has never once rushed me off the phone (and I do like a chat haha). Lisa is always professional yet friendly and has totally changed my mind about travel agents. After all, I have now booked THREE cruises through her personally."

Taranto, a coastal city in Puglia, Southern Italy, is the capital of the Province of Taranto. The city was actually founded in the 7th century BC by exiles from Sparta, to become one of its wealthiest and most important colonies. The Romans took over in the 3rd century BC, resulting in a decline in its fortunes. Sadly, the still remaining though collapsing historic Roman medieval centre is gritty and dirty, but it does have a lovely seaside promenade. Today, the modern Italian industrial city of Taranto is home to wide promenades and expensive shops. It has a beautiful Cathedral and a stunning fishing port, with fantastic theatres, nightlife and scrumptious seafood.

Delightful places to visit include: the beautiful castle of Aragonese with its four towers; Ponte Girevole, a swing bridge that lets military ships enter the old port; and the Institute of Oceanography and the National Archaeological Museum with artefacts over 2,000 years old, to name but a few. Despite once being a Roman Citadel, the mainland industrial centre’s skyline is dominated by Italy's largest steel plant.
