Our consultant was most helpful, and when she was on holiday someone else stepped in - great. Also big thank you to the staff member who tried to help me when I couldn't log on to cruise personalised - their advice was correct, I was able to log on at work with a different provider."

Pesaro is a village in the Marche region of Italy facing the Adriatic Sea and surrounded by hills and mountains. Venice is 175km to the north. Pesaro is known as “City of Bicycle” with its network of cycling paths, and “City of Music” as birthplace of Rossini. Fishery, furniture industry and tourism are the main strengths of the local economy. Look beyond the seaside high-rises and booked-out beach lounges to the pretty medieval township a few hundred metres inland.

Notable sites in the town are: the 15th C Ducal Palace, a Renaiassance-style palace; 15th C Rocca Constanza, a massive castle with four towers; 16th C Villa Imperiale of Pesaro palace and gardens; birthplace and museum of Gioachino Rossini (think The Barber of Seville, and William Tell); the Civic Museum with ten-glazed ceramics and paintings by Bellini; the Benelli and Morbidellli Museums of motorbikes; Villino Ruggeri, and Art Nouveau villa; and very many religious edifices. The Piazza Del Popolo will be on your walking tour of the town.

Italian visitors have been coming here to enjoy the sandy beaches for a hundred years. At the seaside the ‘Great Ball’ of bronze (there’s another in the Pope's private garden in the Vatican) that seems to float on a mirror of water, surrounded by an entertainment area. Inland are attractive rolling green hills and places of interest. Out of town are two historic villas which are worth visiting when open: Villa Caprile, which has an elegant garden with fountains; and the imposing Imperial Villa on San Bartolo hill. Interestingly, the world's smallest Republic of San Marino is a 50km drive to the NW.
