Cruises visiting Gaeta & all Gaeta cruises for  2019-2020

View Gaeta 2019-2020 cruises for 2 ships listing 2 cruises from Gaeta with today's best deals!

Gaeta, set on a promontory in the Gulf of Gaeta that eventually extends to Naples, is an active, authentic, and ancient portrait of Italy. Historically it has played a conspicuous part in military affairs as noted by the fact that its fortifications date back to Roman times and include, at the top of Monte Orlando, the first century mausoleum of a Roman General. Attractions include numerous famous and architecturally diverse churches, such as the Church of Annuziata and the church of San Giovanni a Mare. Of outstanding interest is the massive Aragonese Angevine Castle, two buildings, one of which is today used for conferences and exhibitions.

Gaeta is also home to the Regional Park of Riviera di Ulisse, which includes several mountains and promontories. Also very popular are the seven delightful bathing beaches. Also well worth visiting are many places with remains of Roman Villas. Take a bus to the top of Mount Orlando, visiting Split Mountain and the Grotto along the way, and thoroughly enjoy the spectacular views, as well as visiting Munazio Planco's Mausoleum. Walk through the medieval section of town and admire the wonderful lane-ways and markets.

Whenever you visit, you'll find plenty to do, from hiking Monte Orlando to see ancient ruins, to wandering the old, narrow streets to shop and eat. If you're looking for seafood, you've come to the right place. Most Gaeta restaurants specialize in dishes featuring local fish and shellfish. Visiting Gaeta is a great way to get a feel for the rest of southern Italy. Friendly locals, tons of ambiance and a sense of history ties everything together. One of the reasons the locals embrace visitors is their unique history with Americans. The reasons date back to WWII, when American soldiers liberated the town from German occupation.
