Port Blair is the largest town and the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Island group (aka the Emerald Islands) between the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea, a union territory of India. The town lies on the east coast of South Andaman Island and is the main entry point to the islands. With a cluster of tin-roofed houses, shops and restaurants, there is also the very well-known Andaman Water Sports Complex that provides visitors with the entire range of water sports. Scuba diving is very popular, as are rides on jet skis, banana boats, and speedboats. Also on offer is a variety of sea food delicacies, besides Indian, Chinese, Continental, and Burmese cuisine.

Many visit a colourful aquarium that is very interesting to those who appreciate marine life. Also on offer is a tour to North Bay Island for snorkelling and a ride in a glass-bottomed boat to absorb the great views of all kinds of coral fields and sea creatures. Local attractions include the historic Prison Museum that was once home to hundreds of freedom fighters, a marine museum that provides a brief introduction to the island and its flora and fauna, and an anthropological museum with displays of the essential things used by the local tribes, such as weapons, baskets, cloths, utensils, and jewellery.

There are several places of interest in the Port Blair region, and travellers can choose their favourite destination and plan their trip accordingly. Many visit some of the surrounding islands such as Jolly Buoy Island and the popular Ross Island with its scenic beauty and many historical ruins. Samudrika Marine Museum is one of the best tourist places to visit. It is extremely well maintained by the Indian Navy. A whale skeleton welcomes visitors at the entrance, followed by a great collection of corals and a complete overview of the marine diversity in the Andamans.
