Karimunjawa, also known as Karimun Java, a hidden paradise of Java, is an archipelago of 27 islands north of Semarang and off the coast of Central Java. It has been designated as a national marine park. Subsequently It is a great spot for sunbathing, swimming and fishing, as there is extremely little environmental damage in these areas. The main island is Karimun and the second island is Kemujan. The two islands are like twins, just side by side and often mistaken for one another.

This place is not swarmed with tourists therefore you can find yourself enjoying the serenity of secluded and tranquil white beaches. Equipment is available for hire, so numerous diving activities are on offer. Great snorkelling is extremely safe, with extensive shallow reefs just one and a half metres in depth. You may even be able to hire a glass-bottomed boat if you prefer. If you are adventurous, then you can take a hike around the island with some pleasant surprises and excellent panoramas. Spend time with the local community and get to know their unique traditions and culture.

The island is a real treasure for those who love marine life. Here can be found secluded and tranquil beaches, with pelicans, and numerous sea creatures that include crabs, anchovy, stingrays, and even sharks, to name but a few. Many locals will also introduce you to this place, ‘the pride of Central Java’ for having their very own white sand beaches and clear blue sea. As the rest of Java, Indonesia has a tropical climate, so the best time to go to Karimunjawa would be during the dry season of April to October where the weather would be consistent sunny but humid.
