Cruises visiting Amorgos & all Amorgos cruises for  2019

Amorgos - aka Yperia, Patagy - is the easternmost island of the Greek Cyclades island group, lying closest to the neighbouring Dodecanese island group. Around 3200 to 2000 BC it was the site of an ancient and powerful civilization with major population centres built around natural ports on the island's west coast. Today these are the locations of Tholaria, Stroumvos, Katapola and Castri. Amorgos, regarded as the pearl of the Aegean is simple, nostalgic, rich in history and traditions. Then there’s its rocky territory and scarce vegetation, breathtaking landscapes, and crystal deep blue sea.

Beautiful flamboyant sunsets, a peaceful and noiseless island with only few tourists, having its peak of visitors in August, it is the ideal destination for those who are looking for a quiet place far from the chaos of mass tourism, yet still offering a comfortable vacation. The island delights visitors with sceneries that nature generously offers. Also ‘on show’ are some joyful tender cats that wonder freely around the isle. The island is worth traversing from north to south to discover the numerous archaeological sites, such as the impressive monastery of Hozoviotissa, and all its churches.

With over 100 km of beautiful wild coast, Amorgos covers an area of 121 square km, and has a population of almost 2000 people. The population lives on the local resources which are fishing and agriculture, even though there are only few fertile little valleys. Add to this sheep farming, which produces the traditional local cheese. The highest mountain peaks are Kurakellos, which reaches 800m above the sea level and is located in the northeast, and the Prophet Elijah’s peak that is located in the centre of the isle. Despite the scarce vegetation in Amorgos there are a large number of herbs having therapeutic properties.
