Torbay is an east-facing bay and natural harbour at the western-most end of Lyme Bay in the SW of England, situated roughly midway between the cities of Exeter and Plymouth. Tourist authorities call it the English Riviera on account of its beaches and mild climate, and it is a popular area with holiday makers. There are three main towns around the bay - Torquay in the north, Paignton in the centre, and Brixham in the south, which have become connected over the years. Interestingly, the fishing port of Brixham is home to one of England and Wales's most successful fishing fleets.

Living Coasts, Torquay's award-winning coastal zoo, is home to a magnificent array of marine life from around the world. Torquay Harbour near the town centre offers shops, cafes and a marina. Torre Abbey, a monastery founded in 1196, has art galleries and extensive gardens, while many visit the Paignton Zoo with its lions, tigers, giraffes, gorillas, crocs, snakes, as well as a mini train. The town contains an "Agatha Christie Mile", a tour with plaques dedicated to her life and work. Alternatively, visit the prehistoric caves geared for family visits with kids' activities, tours, and a large restaurant.

Other attractions include: Babbacombe Model Village, with 4 acres of miniature houses, vehicles, and people, including a castle and a fiery dragon; Splashdown Waterpark Quaywest with tumbling tyre rides, swimming pools and a toddlers' fun pool, plus wetsuit hire and food available; Dart Steam Railway & River Boat Co Scenic countryside tours on a coal-fired paddle steamer or vintage steam engines along the beautiful scenic coastline; Dart Steam Railway & River Boat Co Scenic’s countryside tours from on a coal-fired paddle steamer or vintage steam engines along beautiful scenic coastline; and Paignton Pier family-friendly entertainment complex with tenpin bowling, fairground rides, crazy golf and a cafe.
