Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland and third most populous in the UK. The city is situated on the River Clyde in the country's West Central Lowlands. It is a friendly, bustling town with imposing 19th C buildings, vibrant theatre life, the most talked-about independent music scene outside the USA, and the city's buses and metro system make it easy to explore. Indeed, most visitors take a city sightseeing tour in an open top bus that visits all the top visitor attractions. The heart of the city is George Square, the site of many of Glasgow's public statues and the elaborate Victorian Glasgow City Chambers, the headquarters of the Glasgow City Council. Don't miss the re-opened Kelvingrove Art Museum, or the surprisingly delicious local delicacy: deep-fried pizza. Also of interest to many is the Victorian Necropolis, Glasgow's Victorian City of the Dead, is a vast and grand cemetery modelled on Père-Lachaise in Paris. It is described as one of the most significant cemeteries in Europe.

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is Scotland's most visited free attraction. With 22 themed, state-of-the-art galleries displaying an astonishing 8000 objects, the collections are extensive, wide-ranging and internationally-significant. Self-guided walking tour maps are available from George Square Tourist Office of Merchant City, now a vibrant historic cafe quarter and designer-shopping mecca. Highlights of this tour, which dates back to medieval times, include the grand neo-classical halls and Georgian townhouses built for Glasgow's rich tobacco barons and shipping merchants. Also on offer are day trips that include the village of Alloway that is Robert Burns’ birthplace, the historic New Lanark World Heritage Village, and on the Isle of Bute, Mount Stuart House is one of Britain’s finest pieces of Gothic revival domestic architecture and a popular visitor attraction.
