Blaye is a commune and sub-prefecture in the Gironde department of Aquitaine in SW France. Located on the right bank of the Gironde Estuary, Blaye boasts of being the cradle of a great vineyard. Its wines are recognised worldwide. The citadel of Blaye is now listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Admission is free and it is always open. Guided tours of the fortress and its dungeons are available.

Blaye is also defended by the Fort Paté on an island in the river and the Fort Médoc on its left bank, both of which were built in the 17th century.
