Cruises visiting Puerto del Rosario & all Puerto del Rosario cruises for  2019-2020

View Puerto del Rosario 2019-2020 cruises for 4 ships listing 9 cruises from Puerto del Rosario with today's best deals!

Puerto del Rosario is the capital of the island of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands, Spain. It lies only 105 km from the African coast, and with its daily average of 8 hours of sunshine it makes an ideal stopover for cruise ships. The town is known for its whitewashed houses and open-air artworks, including giant snail sculptures along the harbor promenade. Head to the old town behind the promenade to find the majority of the shops, bars and restaurants. The capital is making efforts to attract a few tourists. While there are no major attractions here, it's still worth a stroll and a lunch stop.

The island was called Port of the Goats – its main export commodity – and in 1957 changed to Port of the Rosary as more appealing. In the 1960s the Spanish Foreign Legion made Puerto del Rosario their base. Despite most of the land on the island consisting of a desert-like landscape, here you will find the most impressive beaches in the whole of Europe. There are more than 150 long sandy beaches with enormous sand dunes. Water sports, including surfing, windsurfing, scuba diving and game fishing are very popular on the island.

In town visit the Bell tower of Santo Domingo de Guzmán church, as well as many new attractions, such as the Betancuria Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography, and the Tefia Craft Village to name but a few. There’s a small museum - ‘a little gem ’ – for the Spanish dissident writer Don Miguel de Unamuno. If you wish to see a multitude of volcanic craters - it is well worth the effort - take a 60 km N trip to the neighbouring island of Lanzarote, or if you wish to really get away from it all, then take a 30 km boat ride to the small island of Los Lobos.
