Genovesa Island consists of a single shield volcano, with a small lake-filled crater, in the Galápagos Islands of Ecuador in the eastern Pacific Ocean. Although there have been no historic eruptions on the island, the volcano should be considered active, though dormant. The landing site for Darwin Bay is a small beach at the end of the bay, and provides one of the best opportunities to see hammerhead sharks while snorkelling. Sea lions will often haul out on the white sands, and numerous birds nest in and near the mangroves that line a 0.75 km path. Visitors can take the trail here that leads up to the top of the cliffs surrounding the bay for an overall view of the island.

It has developed a reputation as ‘The Bird Island’ because of the numerous and varied bird species that nest there. Genovesa, also known as Tower Island, though small, is one of the most interesting both geologically and biologically. Prince Phillip's Steps is a dry landing onto a rocky path carved directly into the rocky volcanic walls of the island. The path leads up the 25m high walls to the largest bird colonies on the island, including a spot at the edge of the island where Galápagos storm petrels fill the air so thickly that it's a wonder they find space to fly.
