Offenbach is a city in Hesse, Germany, located on south side of the river Main just next to Frankfurt am Main. Interestingly, the city is part of the Frankfurt urban area. The inner town is quite large and there are only a few suburbs. In Offebach there is no specific Old Town, but there are several buildings to see, which survived bombing during the war and have been restored. Perhaps the best known of these is the Busing Palace and its surrounding Busing Park reconstructed in the 1980s.

However the city’s most important building would have to be the Isenburg Palace, a renaissance palace from 1576 with an impressive facade. It is today used by the Offenburg Design University which is next to it. Then there is the Wihelmsplatz, a square with delightful coffee houses and even a market three times a week. There is also a neoclassic palace, the Rumpenheimer Schloss, that now serves exclusively as domestic dwellings but the park is open to the public.

There are truly numerous buildings that are worth visiting such as the Westend Quarter of the 19th century, the art deco apartment houses, and the buildings of the French protestant community. Be aware that it is quite a bit cheaper if you plan to use local public transport in Offenbach while you are in town. Shopping in Offenbach is really calm and friendly and visitors really appreciate the friendliness of the locals and relax in the neighbourly atmosphere.
