Cruises visiting Mainz & all Mainz cruises for  2019-2020

View Mainz 2019-2020 cruises for 2 ships listing 7 cruises from Mainz with today's best deals!

Mainz is a city in Germany located on the west bank of the river Rhine, across from Weisbaden. Lying just 35 km SW of Frankfurt, it shares much of its regional importance. Built as a Roman fort in the first century BC, and then in the 1450s having the first European books printed using movable type by Gutenberg, it is a fascinating destination. Mainz was also the base of a Roman river fleet, the remains of which can be viewed in the Museum fur Antike Schifffahrt. Also of historical interest are the Roman remains, including Jupiter's column, Drusus' mausoleum, the ruins of the theatre and the aqueduct.

Mainz's Old Town, its inner city, is the pride and joy of the city-scene. Broad, roomy squares and lovingly-restored half-timbered houses, and magnificent Baroque churches give Old Town its charming character. There are also many interesting shops and delightful cafes waiting to be discovered. The charming road train, the Gutenberg-Express, can organise a city sightseeing tour to your own wishes, while another option is to obtain the Mainz Card that not only offers over 50 special discounts for culture and sightseeing, but with the Mainz Card you can travel free of charge on all public transport in Mainz and Wiesbaden.

A guided walking tour takes visitors past the historical and cultural highlights of this beautiful city, including St Stephan's Church with its Chagal stained-glass windows, Roman relics, and the impressive thousand-year-old Mainz cathedral. There are several well-known museums, such as the State Museum Mainz with its 36 pictures donated by Napoleon in 1803, and the Diocesan Museum that features rotating collections of religious art. Many take the opportunity to explore the small vineyard villages and discover wonderful wines and rituals in a pleasant garden atmosphere.
