Cruises visiting Paphos & all Paphos cruises for  2019

View Paphos 2019 cruises for 1 ships listing 1 cruises from Paphos with today's best deals!

Paphos is a coastal harbour city in the SW of Cyprus, with a population of 33,000. It is a popular tourist destination with many modern resorts, new international airport, smart restaurants, and shopping areas across the city. The economy is based on tourism and agriculture (bananas, grapes and tobacco). Paphos is the European Capital of Culture for 2017. The port has a small marina for fishing vessels, and there’s an old Byzantine fort at the harbour, Paphos Castle. A second ancient ruined castle, Saranta Kolones, lies to the north of the harbour inside the UNESCO world heritage site Paphos Archaeological Park, well worth a visit.

In olden times Paphos had two locations: New Paphos (the currently inhabited city) and Old Paphos (Palaepaphos) which is 16km to the east and just inland from the A6 highway. Greek mythology is linked to many sites across the region: in particular the legend of the Greek sex goddess Aphrodite. Tourists visit Petra tou Romiou ("Stone of the Greek"), 22km SE along the coast, the birthplace by legend of Aphrodite. Of reliable history is the apostle Paul’s arrival in Paphos in 47 AD (Acts 15) to meet the Roman proconsul. The extensive remains of the proconsul's palace with its fine mosaics are a major tourist attraction.

Then there are the amazing museums that even include weaving museums, which together with a wide range of activities such as cycling, horse riding and bird-watching, offer a most enjoyable time. If time permits take a wine tour to the villages and possibly visit the amazing Chrysorrogiatissa monastery. Visitors also enjoy the thrill of the water park and go-kart centre, and/or visiting the nesting grounds of the green and loggerhead turtles. Sixteen kilometres along the coast to the NW are interesting Sea Caves, and the wreck of Edro III. Visitors also enjoy the thrill of the local water park and go-kart centre, and/or visiting the nesting grounds of the green and loggerhead turtles.
