Sally Berry was extremely helpful, I would be happy if when I booked another cruise that I went through her. The service was excellent, not a bad word to say only good things. Thank you to Sally Berry and Clean Cruising for making my booking easier for me."

Cruises visiting Castro & all Castro cruises for  2020-2021

View Castro 2020-2021 cruises for 4 ships listing 13 cruises from Castro with today's best deals!

Castro, situated on the east coast of Chiloe Island, sits on a bluff above its sheltered estuary and is the capital of the Chiloe Archipelago, in Chile. Castro is famous for its brightly painted traditional wooden stilt houses, so the greatest single attraction is simply walking down the streets and around the central Plaza de Armas. With its well-kept park that is surrounded by many shops and restaurants, it presents a great opportunity to absorb the local culture. Also of interest is a former railway yard, Plazuela del Tren - transformed into a pleasant park – with a display of locomotives and other vehicles, as well as machinery that was used from 1912-1960.

For a fine view of the city, don’t miss the lookout at Mount Millantuy, where there is a monument to the Virgin Mary. Settled by Spain in the 15thC, there are literally hundreds of small wooden churches, many of which now have World Heritage Listing. Visit the Regional Museum of Castro with exhibits of many objects made in Chiloe, as well as archaeological displays. The Museum of Modern Art, with its important collection of contemporary art, is also a popular attraction, while many appreciate taking a walk to Gamboa to see the boats that are built in a traditional way aside a wharf.

Also of import are the beaches including: Quento, Tongoy and Yutuy, which are popular among the locals, and lie very close to Castro. This bustling town somehow retains its local Chilote character, side-by-side with a dash of modern development and comfortable tourism infrastructure. The island's major attraction for tourists is based on its cultural heritage that consists of: crafts markets, cultural landscapes, museum exhibitions, as well as its seafood cuisine and architectural heritage. Castro is a transportation hub and the most popular destination in Chiloe.
