The port of Itajai is the main port of the state of Santa Catarina, and the second port of Brazil. Itajai has many delightful beaches and the city also has ample rural areas and a beautiful natural landscape. It is also well known for its fishing, good quality of life, and the friendliness of the people. The many Portuguese, Italian, and German immigrants, due to mass immigration from Europe early in the 19th C, have provided the port with a rich heritage. This strong multicultural identity is an integral part of the charm of the region.

One well-known tourist attraction is the Parrot's Beak, a 6 m tall rock in the shape of a Parrot. There are many hiking trails with varying degrees of difficulty and 360 waterfalls in the Atlantic jungle. It seems as though parts of Europe - especially Germany – have simply been transplanted into a beautiful tropical South American setting. The beaches of Itajaí are great for swimming, surfing or just walking along the seashore. Brava beach is what you want your dream beach to be like, beautiful sand, no busy road nearby, and choice of a few quality bars for refreshments.

The waters around the islands are filled with more than 50 shipwrecks, six of them being opened for those keen on scuba diving. The Port of Itaja, the second largest in Brazil in terms of the movement of containers, is responsible for the success of the Itajaí Valley. As a doorway to the world, it has supported the development of surrounding cities with its superior geographical position, providing a boost to the regional economy. As you might expect for any city in Brazil, there is no shortage of lively bars and clubs to entertain the influx.
