Port Denison is a town of 1200 residents on the Coral Coast of Western Australia. It lies 315 km N of Perth, and 57 km S of the larger town of Geraldton. Its artificial harbour is formed with stone breakwaters, and is home to a crayfish fleet in its marina. The area has been marketed as the 'Rock lobster capital of Australia'. Nearby is its twin town Dongara at the mouth of the Irwin River, settled in 1853. The Royal Steam Roller Flour Mill built in the 1890s still stands impressively. Dongara became the centre of a small oil and gas industry that began with the discovery of the Dongara Gas Field in 1966.

Take the heritage walk in Dongara-Port Denison to see: Irwin District Museum, Russ Cottage (1860s), Denison House, the old Post Office, The Priory Hotel, interesting headstones in the Cemetery, and Fishermen’s Lookout Obelisk. Also seek out 18-hole golf, great fishing, Moreton Bay fig trees along the main road, and The Big Lobster. Begin the Ship Wreck Walk located along the Port Denison Foreshore. There are six walks ranging from 2.7 km up to 9km, with free GPS and gadgetry. The stunning wildflower season is from late August to October. Out of town are the Silverside Olive Orchard (10km north), and Irwin Winery (17km ENE).

The sandy surfing beach to the south of Port Denison is endless, a haven for 4WD picnickers and wind-surfers. The coast is wind-swept – many trees grow up a metre and then bend horizontal to the ground – and covered with low shrubs. Only a 20 minute drive south of Dongara-Port Denison is the historical village of Greenough. Here you can see the leaning trees, Wildlife Park or tour through the old village buildings. Also a short journey south east is Ellendale Pool (62km, 45 min.), a stunning water hole naturally formed along the Greenough River.
