Exmouth is a small town situated just north of the Tropic of Capricorn, and north of Perth. It has an average winter temperature of 25 deg. and a summer average of 35 deg. As there is little rain, the summer days are low in humidity. In the early nineties it served as a communications base for the US navy and while some tall towers and buildings are still used by the Australian navy, today it is most famous for its very rich marine environment.

Ningaloo Marine Park, with the reef just a stroll into the water from local beaches, is an underwater paradise for snorkellers, with vibrant coral, brightly coloured fish, dolphins and manta rays in just about the clearest turquoise water on earth. For further adventure, a range of dive sites to suit all levels of experience is available for scuba divers. Also available are cruises aboard a semi-submersible, which with expert commentary also provide excellent photographic opportunities. Between June and October take a boat tour to seek out migrating whales.

The rugged Cape Range National Park is just half an hour drive south of the town and with its spectacular gorges, canyons, wildlife and wild flowers, it is well worth a visit. Great fishing and mud-crabbing is also available, and a visit to the Exmouth Marina, with its cafes, restaurants and boutiques is an inviting spot to relax!
