The Bay of Fires is nine kilometres north of St Helens, Tasmania's largest town on the island's north-eastern coast. Internationally recognised, named by Lonely Planet as a top place to visit in 2009, this 29 km ribbon of stunning blue water, surf and white sandy beaches is renowned for its island beach culture, cosy cottages and nature walks. It really has something for everybody.

The bay was given its name by Captain Tobias Furneaux in 1773, who saw the fires of the Aboriginal people on the beaches. Today it offers a wide range of activities including camping, beach activities, boating, bird watching, fishing, diving, swimming, surfing and walking, and has become one of Tasmania's most popular tourist destinations.

While respecting the protected sites , by not removing shell and bone deposits (Aboriginal middens) found in the sand dunes, thoroughly enjoy the dramatic landscape, ecology and wildlife, in this 'corner of heaven'.
