Costa Cruises is a Carnival Corporation cruise line based in Genoa. This Italian line is “the only international brand that hasn’t adapted its product to the American market.” Fourteen vessels provide holidays in the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, Caribbean, South America, Indian Ocean, Middle East, and Far East. Ships range from 3 to 3.5 star, and cater well to young couples and singles, as well as families. Two vessels (Serena and Venezia) are based year-round in China. Children have a range of play activities from their new Spin Master program. Artworks and hand-crafted furnishings play an important role in setting the onboard atmosphere. Cabin and dining room stewards are multi-national and English-speaking. Italians account for 25 to 30 percent of guests on most Costa cruises, followed by passengers from France, Germany and Spain. Depending on the season or destination, North Americans make up 5 to 15 percent. The "universal" language on board is English.

Staterooms come in four categories: Classic on lower decks; Premium on upper decks; Samsara near the spa, with unlimited spa access; and highest-level Suites with extras such as priority boarding. Onboard smoking is now restricted to designated areas. Guests use the Costa App is a comprehensive electronic aid to all features of guests’ on-board life. Costa Cruises has placed orders for three new ships to be introduced from late 2019 and 2021. These mammoth new cruise ships will be of two new classes: one will be 135,000 GT and the other two will be 183,200 GT.
