Cruz Bay (population 2700) is the main town on the island of St John, in the US Virgin Islands. The three main islands and many smaller ones that constitute US Virgin Islands are located in the Leeward Island of the Eastern Caribbean. Montserrat (‘Serrated Mountain’), also known as the ‘Emerald Isle of the Caribbean’, is a lush green volcanic island in the Leeward Islands of the NE Caribbean. It is a British Overseas Territory. The island is 16.5km N-S and10kmE-W, and one-third of its area is covered by lava flows from the 1995-2000 eruptions of Soufrière Hills volcano (French: “sulfur outlet”; 915m). Basseterre is located on the SW coast of St Kitts Island in the Leeward Islands group, and is one of the oldest towns in the Eastern Caribbean. Key West is a city on an island of the same name that lies off the coast of Florida USA. One of the biggest attractions on the island is a concrete replica of a buoy at the corner of South and Whitehead Streets, which claims to be the southernmost point in the continental 48 states.
