Colombo is the largest city, and the commercial, industrial and cultural capital of Sri Lanka. Despite its frenetic traffic and the general hustle and bustle of being where you can see some of the tallest buildings in Asia, it does offer some interesting attractions. Trincomalee (‘Trinco’) is a port town on the east coast of Sri Lanka, having a population of about 100,000. The town is built on a peninsula, on one side of which is an inner deep-water harbour for anchorage (the fifth largest natural harbour in the world), and on the other side are white beaches bordered by the Indian Ocean. Port Blair is the largest town and the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Island group (aka the Emerald Islands) between the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea, a union territory of India. The town lies on the east coast of South Andaman Island and is the main entry point to the islands. With a cluster of tin-roofed houses, shops and restaurants, there is also the very well-known Andaman Water Sports Complex that provides visitors with the entire range of water sports.
