Wind Surf cruises for 2020-2021

Until March 2020 Wind Surf sails right across the breadth of the Caribbean region, from the Leeward Islands bordering the Atlantic to Central and South America. She visits major ports, but also those smaller and less visited. Imagine entering a port beneath six masts and sails, so quietly, and the impression your arrival creates. Now if you want 13 straight nights of starry skies, board at St Martin and arrive at Barcelona in April 2020. In May cruise between Iberia and Venice. In June and July it’s the UK, Baltic, and southern Norway. Then till early November return to the western Mediterranean, over seven to 18 nights. All of the expected tourist cities are included, it’s just a matter of deciding the length of your journey and which part of the Mediterranean to visit. Late in 2020 Wind Surf is again in the Caribbean sailing out of Bridgetown in Barbados over seven nights. Generally itineraries visit a port every day and sail at night.

Life aboard Wind Surf

This boutique yacht at 14,745 GT with up to 342 guests was recently refitted in September 2019. Its five 67.5 m masts hold 2600 sq.m. of computer-controlled sails, and an ingenious water hydraulic ballast system that limits roll to 6 degrees. She runs at 12 knots with engines only; up to 15 knots (27 kph) wind and engine assisted. The open bridge policy means you can learn first-hand about the ship’s operation. Sails power the ship up to 40% of the time. Public spaces include the bars, Bridge, Yacht Club with library, and pool areas. Clientele are mostly young couples and solo travellers who can take full advantage of the water activities, in an unstructured yet chic atmosphere. Dress is casual, and friendly service is from the mostly Indonesian and Filipino crew. With a draft of only 5 m access is available to smaller ports. Allow for paying tips and for bottled water.

Accommodation
Staterooms are on the three lower decks. All 171 staterooms have ocean views, queen beds (or twins if preferred), flat-screen TV with DVD player, and Bose SoundDock speakers for Apple iPods. Staterooms are comfortable, with Egyptian cotton bedding, spacious bath that features granite counter tops, ample storage, and a roomy shower (no bath tubs) with massage shower head, accompanied by L’Occitane bath products and waffle-weave robe and slippers. Fresh fruit and flowers arrive daily. There’s wireless Internet access (pay), and private safe. Room service is around the clock.

There's a unique Officer's Suite located behind the Bridge near the Captain's officers' quarters. The suite comes with a full bath with a jacuzzi a living room and a widescreen television. With an expansive 46 sq.m., the two Bridge Deck Suites gives you everything offered in a stateroom, plus a sitting area and separate in-room dining space. The 18 Ocean View Suites at 22.5 sq.m. have two bathrooms. Many cabins have a third berth. Of course, there’s controllable AC, and nightly turn-down service. The mini-bar is stocked daily and payable for drinks taken (15% bar surcharge). All cabins have two outside-view portholes.

Food and Dining
Wind Surf’s primary dining venue is AmphorA restaurant (deck 4), that offers gourmet, course-by-course cuisine in the evenings. Signature dishes created by master chefs are featured. For casual dining there’s Stella Bistro, and Veranda restaurant (both top deck) offering casual buffet and full-service dining for breakfast and lunch. All dining is open seating, so you dine with whom and whenever you wish. Non-alcoholic beverages and coffees are inclusive.

For dining under the stars, make a reservation for Candles Grill (also top deck) that features grilled seafood, steaks and skewers. At the bar, hot and cold hors d’oeuvres appear at cocktail times. At no extra charge, a ‘Cuisine de l’Amour’ romantic dinner for two can be served in your cabin. With candle. Compass Rose offers music, a bar, and conversation.

Entertainment
There are no show lounges, actually offering a relief to get away from all that noise. The main lounge has a small casino and a dance floor where a trio often play their music. The main lounge is also used for social functions, and nightly informative port talks and destination briefings. More personal entertainment will be a DVD in your cabin late at night, or an after-dinner stroll on the deck. Or, relax in the small library. There is a small fitness centre with treadmills, exercise cycles and sauna. WindSpa packages at extra cost can be pre-booked.

There are two saltwater ‘dip’ pools and two hot tubs. Since daily activities mostly centre around the water, guests have unlimited access to all water sports equipment that includes kayaks, windsurfs, water skis, and snorkels. There’s a water sports platform aft of the ship.
