Life aboard Norwegian Spirit
Norwegian Spirit is based in the Mediterranean until May 2019. Cruises are of 10 and 11 nights. Those departing Barcelona mostly head for the Canary Islands, Casablanca (Morocco) and ports in Spain. Cruises departing Civitavecchia (port for Rome) have a few itineraries: Take a circle of the Western Mediterranean to include Monaco and Malta, or explore Greece and the Caspian Sea ports up to Venice. In May 2019 Norwegian Spirit relocates to Southampton, and cruises until September will take you around the UK, and to Iceland, Norway, and the Baltic Sea. Three cruises can be recommended: depart Southampton 2 August 2019 to visit 9 ports in the Baltic, with an overnight in St Petersburg; depart Stockholm for a similar return journey to Southampton; depart Southampton 14 June 2019 for the northernmost part of Europe, North Cape, and see the midnight sun. From late October 2019 to January 2020 Spirit is in the Mediterranean, and some itineraries include the Holy Land with an overnight in Haifa. On 10 February 2020 Norwegian Spirit offers a Grand Cruise in sectors: Rome to Dubai (visit the Ephesus ruins, hidden city of Petra, and Valley of the Kings and Karnak Temple on the Nile in Luxor), Dubai to Cape Town, Cape Town to Singapore, and Singapore to Yokohama: all up, 81 nights, 35 ports, 23 countries, 8 overnight stays in port.

In service since 1998, at 75,338 GT and carrying 1,976 passengers, Norwegian Spirit was last refurbished in 2017. Spirit has 11 restaurants (NCL’s Freestyle concept) as well as plenty of family features and eight bars and lounges. It's a lively, friendly ship with excellent service. Children and teens are very well catered for, as befits a family ship. On top of the main dining rooms are great pay-extra alternative eateries. Sip a latte in the six-deck Grand Centrum atrium with its waterfalls, black marble floor and grand staircase. Norwegian Spirit offers an impressive number of bars, lounges, entertainment venues, and classic Stardust Theater. Spa and fitness options get very good reviews. Guests range from toddlers to Seniors. The dress code is casual. The Windows dining room is for those who want to dress up at night.

Accommodation
Two thirds of cabins have an outside view, and three decks have private balconies. Standard inside and outside-view cabins have two beds that can convert to a queen-size bed, and accommodate up to four guests. These cabins are smallish, colourful, with separate shower and toilet, good bedding, and small settee. Storage and bathroom amenities are adequate. Oceanview cabins can accommodate up to four, and have a porthole or a large rectangular viewing window. Outside-view cabins, for two or three have a narrow balcony and small vanity table. Each cabin has TV, safe, and controlled AC. Most outside cabins have balconies accessed through full-wall sliding doors, meaning you have a great view, even when the doors are closed.

The largest staterooms are the six Owner's Suites, with living room and dining area, curved balcony with reclining chairs, bathroom with twin basins, whirlpool tub and separate shower: indeed they come with many extras. Penthouse Suites are slightly smaller, with dining table in the living room area, walk-in closet, CD/DVD player, refrigerator and bath/whirlpool tub. These suites interconnect to an oceanview cabin for family use. Butler service and concierge are available to suites. A small room service menu is available at extra cost.

Food and Dining
There are eight places to eat. The main restaurants are the impressive two-deck Windows, with great views of the stern wake, and the more intimate Garden Room. Both serve three meals a day, with a five-course dinner. Raffles Court and Terrace is the indoor/outdoor lido buffet. For a range of specialty dishes, La Trattoria serves traditional Italian fare in the evening, Cagney’s Steakhouse is the place for beef and seafood, Le Bistro for French gourmet; and authentic Chinese/Japanese/Thai food in available in three other restaurants.

Dine around the clock at Blue Lagoon Café food court which serves fast-wok dishes, burgers and the like. Enjoy bratwurst and sauerkraut in the Bavarian Bier Garden Grill. Five other bars and lounges are themed from Henry’s (British) Pub to Shanghai bar, serving wines, champagnes and appetisers. The Café in the lobby has a wide selection of coffees, and free pastries. Note that for specialty dining venues it is wise to book ahead.

Entertainment
Pleasurable and varied music will follow you throughout the ship. In the evening the Stardust Theatre presents production shows and major cabaret acts. Later in the night it is reserved for adults' entertainment. There are solo entertainers in the many lounges and bars, for listening and dancing, and of course Maharajah's Casino. During the day join a variety of organised activities such as trivia games, dance classes, health seminars and bingo. For young gamers there is Video Arcade.

Sports fans access a basketball/volleyball court, golf-driving net, platform tennis, jogging track, and the sports bar with satellite coverage of major sports events. The Fitness Centre is well equipped and runs classes. There are two large pools and four hot tubs. The Roman Spa operated by Steiner of London offers a full range of service including steam rooms and sauna, acupuncture and teeth-whitening. Teens have their own Celebrity Disco, and younger ones play in the wet 'n' wild pool and tubs. There's Charlie's childcare centre and room of cots for toddlers. With children and teens cared for in four age groups, parents can focus on enjoying their holiday cruise.
