Carnival Magic cruises for 2020-2021

Until May 2020 Magic sails out of Fort Lauderdale, and visits the Eastern and Southern Caribbean over 6 or 8 nights. The 6-night cruise calls at Cockburn Town (Turks and Caiman) and the Carnival resort at Amber Cove (Dominican Republic); then it calls at either Nassau in the Bahamas, or the HAL island-resort of Half Moon Cay (Bahamas), with two sea days. There are two 8-night cruises: to the eastern Caribbean ports of St Martin, Basse-Terre, San Juan and Cockburn Town (with three sea days); or the southern Caribbean that calls at Half Moon Cay (Bahamas), Cockburn Town, and the Netherlands islands of Aruba and Curaçao just off Venezuela (also with three sea days). From May 2020 the home port changes to 35 south to Miami, but keeps the same itineraries. However, in late September 2020 the itineraries change. Seven-night cruises head for the Eastern and Western Caribbean. The western itinerary visits Cozumel (Mexico), Belize City, Roatan (Honduras), and the Cayman Islands along with two sea days. The eastern itinerary calls at the company resort Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic, Charlotte Amalie (US Virgin Islands), San Juan (Puerto Rico), and Cockburn Town (Turks and Caicos), as well as having two sea days. Onshore stopovers allow for duty-free shopping, strolling on magnificent beaches, and perhaps learning about old pirate days.

Life aboard Carnival Magic

Carnival Magic entered service in June 2011 as one of Carnival’s largest vessels, at 128,048 GT with 3646 passengers. She was recently refurbished in 2016. Carnival is a Fun Ship line with lots of playful passengers across all age groups. She will have the widest variety of activity, dining, and entertainment options of the entire fleet. The ship gives a feeling of spaciousness, with its “city at sea” atmosphere.

Accommodation
Cabin categories include interior staterooms (10 grades), ocean view (7 grades), balcony (12 grades), and suites (4 grades). Each of these categories has a “Cloud 9 Spa” variation, with complimentary spa access. Eighty percent of the cabins are outside; 80 percent of those staterooms have private balconies. Each cabin has a gift amenity basket in its bathroom. All staterooms include flat-screen TVs, safe, mini-bar, beach towels, hair dryer, bathrobes to wear during your cruise, and Carnival Comfort Bed with plush mattresses, good quality duvets, linens and pillows. Standard cabins are a good size. Most with twin beds can be converted to king-size bed. Good design and soft lighting add to a feeling of spaciousness in interior staterooms.

The Junior, Grand, and Ocean Suites have a large lounge and sleeping area, large bathroom with twin wash basins, and whirlpool bathtub. The best suites and cabins are those on the aft-facing decks. Suites qualify for priority check-in at port. Cove Balconies are a new category of stateroom, located on the lower Deck 2, which are close to the waterline and offer smaller terraces with excellent ocean views as an alternative to larger balcony staterooms. Some cabins can accommodate a third and fourth person, and most cabin categories are fitted with inter-connecting doors to suit families. There are no single cabins, and 35 wheelchair-accessible cabins. A room service menu is available 24-hours, for a small charge.

Food and Dining
There are two principal dining rooms – Southern Lights and Northern Lights – with a choice of fixed-time dining at two seatings, or flexible “Your Time Dining”. Dining assignments can be booked before the cruise. Menus change daily and service is excellent. Breakfast and lunch are open seating. Late morning Brunch is served along with a comedy presentation. Kids have their own menu. The Lido Marketplace is the expansive two-level poolside eatery, offering casual alternatives for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also on the pool deck is a pizza station, a deli, and the Mongolian Wok for Asian food. Come evening, most of the grill stations close down to become Seaview Bistro.

Prime Steakhouse (reservations only, cover charge) specialising in steaks and seafood is a superb fine-dining experience not to be missed. Cucina del Capitano is the second specialty restaurant (dinner cover charge) that serves Italian cuisine. The Chef’s Table, reserved for 12, is a special dining experience that includes a galley tour. On the promenade deck a premium coffee bar serves specialty coffees and sweets (there's a charge). There are numerous coffee, iced tea and lemonade stations as well as self-serve ice cream and frozen yoghurt machines. The ship offers 24-hour room service, ranging from basic continental-style breakfast fare to a variety of sandwiches and desserts.

Entertainment
There is something for everyone. Showtime Theatre spanning three decks presents large production shows and cabaret acts backed by a live show band. It has a revolving stage, hydraulic orchestra pit, and excellent sound. The Spotlight Lounge has a stage, dance floor, large bar and features cabaret entertainers. Seaside Theatre’s giant screen over the main pool shows sports events, music videos and films. Night is the time for late buffet snacks, R-rated comedy and Vibe Dance Club. There’s Play It Again Piano Bar, and the nearby Ocean Plaza offers food, interactive games, and a dance floor. These are just a few of the two dozen bars and lounges splashed with kaleidoscopic colours.

Daytime activities include the customary art auctions, karaoke, "game show mania," ballroom dancing, comedians, and bingo. Adults have the large action-packed Hat Trick Casino and their adults-only Serenity Retreat. Take an aerobics class, work out in the gym, refresh with a beauty treatment and massage. Access to Cloud 9 Spa with its Thalasso therapy pool, treatment rooms and tea house is limited to Spa staterooms or by day paid pass. There’s a mini-golf course, jogging track, and deck games. On one side of the Seaside Theatre is SportsSquare, which has multiple outdoor activities for all ages; and on the other side is Carnival Waterworks with its many slides. Teens enjoy their own parties and movies at Club O2, junior teens at Circle “C”, and pre-teens at Camp Carnival. Keep linked to the outside world at the Internet Café.
