The Dawn is really rather a tired old ship and we generally prefer the Aria, with bigger balconies and a settee in the cabin, except for the bathrooms which have a tub rather than a shower. Bathrooms on the dawn have a shower and are much better designed, but the balconies are very small. We only went to one show which we considered fairly poor."- Aileen J

We use & recommend Viator.com otherwise search online & call us if you need help. Or just rent a taxi/pushbikes/tour/charter from the wharf when you berth, often the best value but be among the first ashore!
Keep in mind that if you go it alone and something happens like the taxi/bus breaks down and you end up being late back to the ship it will not wait for you unless it is advised. On the other hand if it is a ship-booked tour there are no problems as they are in contact with the tour companies.
The Mexican Riviera (a term coined by Princess Cruise Line), extends from Ensenada (California) south through Cabo San Lucas, La Paz and Loreto on the Baja Peninsula, and six ports on the coast of the Gulf of California including Mazatlan and Acapulco (with its famous cliff divers). Tourists enjoy resort life, sports fishing, water sports, dining and night-partying, shopping and sight-seeing, amidst cultural remnants of the old Mexico.
Five large cruise vessels depart regularly from San Francisco, San Diego and Los Angeles, offering 4 to 14-night cruises to Mexico. Select the ports you wish to visit – just Ensenada in the north, ports on the Baja Peninsula, or travel further south to Puerto Vallarta, Zihuatanejo (where Andy Dufresne of The Shawshank Redeption settled), and Acapulco. The Mexican Riviera is also included in trans-Panama sailings between the US west coast and the Caribbean.
Check out the itineraries of Princess and Carnival ships, Norwegian Star and Celebrity Century, ex Los Angeles, offering 3 to 10-night cruises to Mexican Riviera. Holland America has six ships that visit these ports in regular Panama crossings. For cruising in luxury, try Azamara Quest in February 2014 ex Los Angeles for a port-intensive cruise to the Sea of Cortez. Many vessels call at Mexican Riviera ports as they make the Panama Canal crossing. Luxury ships include Oceania’s Regatta. Regent Seven Seas ships, and Silver Whisper.
