Cruises from Upernavik
Upernavik is a small coastal town (population 1100) on the west coast of Greenland, and was the northernmost point to which Vikings ventured. It lies bout 700 km above the Arctic Circle. The town is located within the vast Upernavik Archipelago, about 700 km inside the Arctic Circle. This is a world of dog sleds, hunting seals, polar bears, birds, narwhals and walrus.
The town rises from the placid water with its scattering of icebergs, its colourful ‘box’ homes settled on steeply-rising and almost-bare rocky ground. There are many motor boats but few vehicles in sight.
