Cruises from Tristan da Cunha
Sail due west from Cape Town towards South America in the South Atlantic Ocean. Near half-way, a volcanic island of 2,062m climbs out of the ocean. Queen Mary's Peak, named after Mary of Teck, the Queen consort of King George V, on the island of Tristan da Cunha (named after a Portuguese explorer in 1506), is an overseas territory of the United Kingdom. It is considered to be the most remote inhabited location on Earth!
As of September 2016, the main island has 265 permanent inhabitants. Meanwhile, the other islands are uninhabited, except for the personnel of a weather station on Gough Island.
